NWRA Scholarships

NWRA offers a wide variety of scholarships to support wildlife rehabilitators. Click on the links below for detailed instructions and application forms.

Debra L. Chandler Memorial Scholarship

The Debra L. Chandler Memorial Scholarship is given to enhance the education of wildlife rehabilitators. One scholarship is awarded to help defray expenses of attending the NWRA Symposium. This scholarship is given through NWRA by Barry D. Chandler, MD, and the Chandler family in loving memory of Debbie Chandler, a long-time NWRA member and dedicated wildlife rehabilitator who touched many lives, both animal and human.

Rachel Fischoff Educational Scholarship

The Rachel Fischoff Educational Scholarship is a $650 credit certificate redeemable through NWRA to pay for any combination of NWRA educational publications, including shipping; NWRA symposium fees, including registration, field trips and/or workshops; and NWRA membership dues (for up to two years). This certificate is given through NWRA by Rachel Fischoff, a life member of NWRA.

NWRA Cage Building Scholarship

This scholarship benefits NWRA members and licensed/permitted rehabilitators through an opportunity to receive a cash scholarship for building, repairing, or renovating caging used exclusively for the rehabilitation of wildlife. NWRA matches an amount to be raised by the applicant; in other words, NWRA may fund up to one-half the projected cost of a project, but not more than the donated amount NWRA has available in that particular year and not over the $2,000 NWRA scholarship total. 

Alma Natura Trust International Scholarship

The Alma Natura Trust International Scholarship is given to enhance the education of wildlife rehabilitators. One scholarship is awarded to help defray expenses of attending the NWRA Symposium. This scholarship is given through NWRA by two NWRA members who wish to support education and training of rehabilitators from abroad.

Applicants may reside anywhere on the globe except Canada, United States, and Mexico. Residents of those countries, please apply for the Alma Natura Trust North American Region Scholarship. Preference is given to candidates from developing countries. 

Alma Natura Trust Scholarship

The Alma Natura Trust (North American Region) Scholarship is given to enhance the education of wildlife rehabilitators. One scholarship is awarded to help defray expenses of attending the NWRA Symposium. This scholarship is given through NWRA by two NWRA members who wish to support rehabilitator education and training and to nurture interactions with Nature.

Applicants must reside in Canada, United States, or Mexico. Residents of other countries, please apply for the Alma Natura Trust International Scholarship. 

Eric Sticht Memorial Scholarship

The Eric Sticht Memorial Scholarship is given to enhance the education of wildlife rehabilitators. One scholarship is awarded to help defray expenses of attending the NWRA Symposium. This scholarship is given through NWRA by Dave Weeshoff in memory of Eric Sticht, a friend of aquatic birds and enthusiastic volunteer at the International Bird Rescue Research Center, San Pedro, CA. 

James J. Wolf CARE for Wildlife Education Scholarship

The James J. Wolf CARE for Wildlife Education Scholarship is given to enhance the education of wildlife rehabilitators. One scholarship is awarded to help defray expenses of attending the NWRA Symposium. This scholarship is given through NWRA by Linda Wolf, DVM in memory of her father James J. Wolf. 

Ed Hiestand Memorial Veterinary Student Scholarship

Call for papers is open to all veterinary students.  The paper should cover a topic related to a veterinary aspect of wildlife rehabilitation (diagnosis, transmission, pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention of a specific disease; an actual case report; a wildlife medicine-related study; etc.) and may consist of a literature review, a personal experience, or both.
