Symposium 2012

Sultry days and lazy nights-Southern at its best!

Dark waters meandering slowly through the bayous...
Hummocks dotted with wildlife rising up from swampy waters...
Ancient gnarled trees draped in silvery-gray Spanish moss...
Prolific vegetation with myriad creatures hiding within...
This is Louisiana!

Join NWRA, your colleagues, and Host Wings of Hope Wildlife Sanctuary March 13-17, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge for a refreshing change to sunshine and warmth.

Every year, wildlife rehabilitators from around the world gather together to share ideas, stories, and meet other rehabilitators at the National Wildlife Rehabilitator Association’s Annual Symposium. This world-class event typically is held in a different city each year and is hosted by a local rehabilitation organization in or near that city.

Attending the symposium is an excellent opportunity to meet with other rehabilitators, create and/or renew friendships, and find out the latest developments regarding wildlife rehabilitation. Not only are the presentations given by fellow rehabilitators, but also by veterinarians, scientists, and wildlife conservation professionals who have a deep love and devotion to wildlife.

This annual gathering is a great opportunity to learn about new developments that have been made by innovators in the field. Everything from books to caging or gloves to milk replacement formulas are displayed by the many exhibitors. Don't forget about T-shirts, sweaters, jewelry, and crafts!

The National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association produces the world’s most comprehensive symposium for wildlife rehabilitators, wildlife educators, and wildlife veterinarians. The organization takes great pride in designing a symposium that meets high professional standards, yet allows for comfortable learning, networking, and growth.

The National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association’s symposium is truly designed by wildlife rehabilitators for wildlife rehabilitators. National symposium committee members are rehabilitators, and the local host committee may be the staff of a world-class facility or a group of hard working individual rehabilitators. Featured are more than 100 presentations, lectures, discussions, and a variety of hands-on labs and workshops. Panel discussions and interactive seminars allow time to ask questions of experienced rehabilitators and wildlife veterinarians. Scholarships are available for presenters.

Choices abound! Four days of concurrent sessions are filled with presentations. Eight different hands-on labs have limited enrollment to provide for high quality experiential learning; each is two hours long and taught by qualified instructors. A small lab fee covers materials and equipment for each participant.

Field trips visit the area’s best natural places, or tour the country’s best wildlife rehabilitation facilities.

Banquet (Friday night) festivities include a fun-filled evening of comradery, silent auction competition, raffle drawings (more than 50 winners), entertainment, and presentation of scholarships, grants, and achievement awards. Plus a great meal (with vegetarian option) including beverage and dessert.

Icebreaker Reception (Tuesday night) provides free munchies and cash bar, along with a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones, and to find people with similar interests.

Exhibits feature vendors selling useful, functional, interesting, and unique rehabilitation and personal interest products—rehabilitation supplies (including hard-to-find items), a huge variety of books, jewelry, shirts, and scrubs, gift items, animal note cards, unique handmade gifts, small equipment, microscopes, and more.

Please join your friends and cultivate new ones while immersing yourself in knowledge—a valuable investment in wildlife (and ourselves!).
