The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center created International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) in 1993. This educational campaign is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2018. World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD), as it is now called, is coordinated by Environment for the Americas (EFTA), a non-profit organization connecting people to bird conservation.

EFTA continues to coordinate events, programs, and activities North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean, at protected areas, refuges, parks, museums, schools, zoos, and more. Although WMBD is officially the second Saturday in May in the US and Canada but because these natural routines differ throughout the world, WMBD is celebrated year-round.

Coloring pages, flyers, event dates, a calendar, and other educational resources are available free of charge on the website.
